New Westminster Parkade  2017  
Commissioned by City of New Westminster

We were thinking about the surrounding urban landscape and waterfront and the heritage homes and gardens. The artwork is a playful counterpoint to the industrial facade of the parkade and the working waterfront. The monumental fragments of birds on branches introduce something light-hearted, gentle, almost domestic. These birds recall the birds of the nearby forest and neighborhood gardens – a reminder of the heritage homes nearby, homes of waterfront workers. The imagery also reminds us of textiles or china patterns of the 1800s – woven into the ‘fabric’ of the chainlink facade.
